What's In It For Me

Basic Cardiac Life Support AED (BCLS+AED) Course aims to equip participants with CPR skills and relief of foreign body airway obstruction for adult and infant casualties. The course will also teach you on how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) on an adult collapse casualty. The course is in accordance to the guidelines and methodologies stipulated by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC).


NOTE

During registration, the course will be shown as 4 days long.

Day 1-3 - for you to receive access to the eLearning modules to complete the Theory component

Day 4 - actual day of your in-person practical and assessment session at SERA

Course Overview

At the end of the Basic Cardiac Life Support+AED course, the trainees will be able to:

  • Demonstrate Adult, Child and Infant CPR competently
  • Use the AED safely and effectively
  • Perform Conscious Foreign Body Airway Obstruction Protocol on Adult, Child and Infant competently
  • Perform Unconscious Foreign Body Airway Obstruction Protocol on Adult, Child and Infant competently
  • Place casualty in Recovery Position

Mode of Assessment

Theory Assessment

Participants will have to complete 30 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) test and need to score at least 80% (24/30) to successfully pass the course.

If a participant fails the theory assessment, the participant will be given 1 more attempt at the theory assessment.


Practical Assessment

Participants will need to demonstrate that they are competent in the skills of

  1. Relief of Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) in a Conscious and Unconscious adult
  2. Relief of Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) in a Conscious and Unconscious infant
  3. Perform CPR and use an AED safely

If a participant fails the practical assessment, the participant will be given up to 2 more attempts at the practical assessment.

  3. Individuals interested to become a BCLS+AED Instructor
  • The BCLS+AED Certification is one of the requirements for an individual to teach BCLS+AED

Course Duration

9.30am - 1.30pm or 2.30pm - 6.30pm


Total Training Duration (Hour)

Online Learning (Approximately 4 hours) + Onsite Practical & Theory Assessment (4 contact hours)

Certification Obtained and Conferred by

Accredited by Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC), valid for 2 years from date of completion


Pre-requisites
  • Able to speak, read and understand English effectively
  • No medical heart and lung conditions or any physical disabilities and injuries that will prevent the participant from performing CPR
